  The project involved integrating techniques like 4-thiouridine labelling and ribosome footprinting to measure translation in newly transcribed mammalian mRNA transcripts. I gained valuable lessons about working with RNA, qPCRs and preparing sequencing libraries among others.   Immunofluorescence microscopy was used to elucidate the localization of different species of J proteins during and after heat stress and arsenite stress in HeLa cells. The project provided exposure to cell culture, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy and the ethics involved in analyzing images and raw data from experiments.
