    • Student Mentor
      • Sep 2021 - Jul 2022

Being a Law Mentor, I have had the responsibility of helping first year law students, transition from A levels to university life, academically and socially. I had the responsibility of giving the students a tour of campus and creating ice breaker activities, to create a comfortable environment. I was a supportive peer if the students had any questions about starting university or the course. This role allowed me to strengthen my ability to communicate, in a professional but approachable manner. I had to retain a leadership responsibility, but this was emphasised when I was instructed to organise activities. Show less

    • Volunteer English Tutor
      • Sep 2022 - Mar 2023

Currently I am on my year abroad studying at City University of Hong Kong. While spending time in Hong Kong I have been participating in volunteer work at the university. Once a week I tutor local students, to help them strengthen their English, which is often a second language for these students. This has been challenging at moments, due to the language barrier, however, often I have thought of different activities which we could complete, which lowers the barrier, while making the tutoring session enjoyable and productive. This role has tested various skills which I would apply while working. The skill of time management and organisation, so I have had to ensure I am still managing my university work, on top of organising actives for the tutoring. Furthermore, I have been incredibly resilient in this role, in between adapting to a new country away from loved one, I have also ensured I have preserved in making the sessions beneficial and productive, despite various difficulties. Throughout my second year of university, I had been involved in the Pro Bono group, where my team had the responsibility to inform start-up businesses on the different areas of law that would be relevant to help them succeed, in their journey of creating their own business. This role enhanced my commercial awareness skills, as my team had to understand what was needed for the start-ups to succeed. My role within the Pro Bono has tested my ability on how to work in a group effectively. Communication within the group was essential. I have learnt how to communicate in a group efficiently, to produce a high standard piece of work. I have developed the ability to present legal knowledge to non-legal minds in a manner which is easy to understand Being involved my skills of problem solving have deepened. As a team we had to organise and coordinate what areas of law we wanted to present. Working with start-up businesses has increased my commercial knowledge, understanding how to communicate with clients and what would be beneficial for the client. I have now obtained the role of Committee Member of Publicity and Fundraising for the academic year of 2023/2024, which I will start in September 2023. When I back for my final year I will have a larger responsibility, involving the organisation and working of the whole of the University Pro Bono group. Show less

I shadowed a barrister from the Victoria chambers, this has allowed me to engage with the proceedings that take place in the court room. I was given the responsibility, to take minutes of the meetings prior the court hearings with the barrister and the client. This had allowed me to develop my skill of organisation and attention to detail. There were multiple meetings that I had to record, and report back to the barrister on the case. This role made sure that I knew what was happening at each step of the cases I followed. I have been able to gain a better understanding on claims surrounding damages. This role, allowed me to develop the ability to communicate with the clients and the barristers on the case, clear and succinctly in pressured situation, with little time available Show less

I demonstrated, skills of being meticulous, with accuracy being pivotal to a successful legal career. I Had insight to creatively problem solve issues presented by clients. While taking minutes of the meeting, indicated the need of organisation, for future reflection of cases. This responsibility tested my attention to detail skills, as I had to relay my notes back to the solicitor on the case.
