Jay was a wonderful resource for my department as he hit the ground running from day one. Jay brought a fresh perspective and hard work ethic to the industrial and safety-related projects which he managed. Jay is ultimately qualified to perform a variety of engineering functions and has always gone above and beyond what is expected of him. I can recommend Jay, without hesitation, based on his previous experiences, his technical aptitude, and his eagerness to excel.

Jay was an outstanding technician during his time at Urban Engineers, Inc.. His work was accurate, timely & efficient. Additionally, he has a great sense of humor & attitude and was a pleasure to have around. He was part of my "Dream-Team" of Intern / Lab. techs that included four other highly intelligent, motivated & energetic "kids" that I doubt will ever be duplicated.

    • Design Engineer - Civil/Aviation (Contract Job)

Contract Job While contracted at Jones Moore I worked as a Civil/Aviation Design Engineer within the airfield/civil engineering discipline for the Chicago O'Hare Modernization Program (OMP), Task Order: Taxiways K & L. I worked closely with engineers from Epstein, Michael Baker Jr., Spaan Tech, ADO Engineering, & Globetrotters, Inc as part of a joint venture, Team ORD, LLC. Some of the duties that I have done include: design of center-line profiles for all new taxiways, design of concrete jointing panels, and new geometric design for the infield fillets following the new Advisory Circular criteria. Furthermore, I have done all of the structural design for an aircraft loaded junction chamber, which connects an existing twin-box culvert and a new storm sewer pipe. This reinforced concrete structure is designed to AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications & AC 150/5320-6E Appendix 3, under the supervision of a registered Structural Engineer. I was assisting with the design of two future taxiways (K &L) that are needed to connect to the recently extended Runway 10L-28R and the future decommissioned Runway 14R-32L. This involved moving, replacing, and/or adding new utilities as well as removing an existing aircraft holding pad into part of the two TDG 7 taxiways with a intermediate connecting taxiway; all of which will meet ADG VI class aircraft (Airbus A-380, B-747-8). The team works closely with the Chicago Department of Aviation, the FAA, several airlines, and many other entities. The project will be designed to the FAA Advisory Circular 150/5300-13A-Change 1 as well as follow a strict QA/QC program. Several other Advisory Circulars govern their respective design portion. I provided technical sales for dampers on industrial sized HVAC systems, particularly in the nuclear power plants. These dampers have to be designed to ASME AG-1 as well as be in accordance with ASME NQA-1 / 10CFR50 Appendix B quality assurance for nuclear power plants. I would occasionally perform structural calculations for the framework on silencer panels. I act as the project manager for all of these projects. One in particular is our internal "Mock Order" that is being built to eventually be externally audited in order to develop an in house NQA-1 program. This will require all of the proper documentation, certifications, training, QA/QC, etc. Show less

I performed many ASTM tests on materials of construction, both in the lab and in the fields. These tests included: compressive strength tests on concrete cylinders, course and fine aggregate gradations, soil proctors, aggregate freeze-thaw tests, bituminous extractions, assisted in soil densities (nuclear gage), and several other tests. I would also assist the design engineers with shop drawing markups during downtime. I performed many ASTM tests on materials of construction, both in the lab and in the fields.
