My expertise has been published with Canadian Global Affairs Institute (CGAI), Policy Insights Forum, Oxford Analytica, US Naval Institute Proceedings, RUSI, and Young Professionals in Foreign Policy's Charged Affairs. I have also done research assignments while a consultant for Corporation for Enterprise Development (currently Prosperity Now) in DC in 2013, and as a temp for the Armed Forces Services Corporation (currently Magellan Federal) in 2016. I will soon publish a chapter in a book by the nonprofit Voices Against Trafficking, which will educate human trafficking professionals on mental health advocacy. I am as well working on a submission to a US military journal along with retired national security personnel, on the topic of UN peacekeeping. Attend meetings and publish with a locally-based national security advocacy organization as their volunteer mental health policy reform expert! I got my start in 2011 as an intern with the Hudson Institute.

    • Journalist
      • Sep 2014 - Present

In addition to writing for Voice of America and CNBC, I have worked simultaneously on local news stories as both a defense journalist and a music journalist for local newspapers and magazines such as Canadian Defence Review, the Chronicle Herald and other regional daily newspapers. I am working long term on a science fiction poetry project about a select few telepathically linked people chosen for immortality, to survive the gradual decline of the human population -- the sole reason for all global history, politics and culture until this point being to choose a set number from each nation on earth as many nations fall to Climate Change. My journalism is mostly about politics, defense and music, and my analysis focuses largely on US-Canada relations, on the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing agreement, on Middle East Politics, and on Arctic Security. In creative writing, I am now working collaboratively on a fiction film screenplay with people in national security careers (with a real US government media liaison on it), as I am simultaneously vetting screenplays for the screenplay contest at the Austin Film Festival. I'm as well on a paid book project writing the history of a nonprofit, CICR, which will take me to Ottawa in July.

Voice of America is the US government's global TV, radio and print journalism outlet. My reporting for Voice of America has been translated into many languages for VOA's various language services, and has been read out loud on Somali radio and Tibetan TV. My articles have been picked up as wire stories by news outlets in Mexico, Ukraine, India, Pakistan, Uganda and Denver, Colorado! They have also gone viral here in my sleepy, remote Canadian home town where I live as a US citizen, as some of my reporting is about local affairs when I am not covering national or international stories.

At Oxford Analytica I did intelligence analysis part time, first regularly and now occasionally. This has included reports on US-Canada relations, the Canadian defense budget, and on counterterrorism issues in Canada such as Domestic Violent Extremists (DVEs). During this time I have audited courses in the Intelligence Studies program at American Military University, became a regular at Intelligence Community Inc. happy hours, and joined RUSI. This has allowed me to build a significant network in national security, intelligence and defense.
