Jay was my mentor when I joined Cisco and an excellent colleague. The qualities I most admired in Jay were strong attention to detail, immense due diligence in requirements gathering and a very thorough and robust approach to design and implementation. These strengths has served him well leading development of broad range of L2 and management plane features across multiple generations of platforms and OS architectures. Earlier as friend/mentor and then as a Tech Lead he has always acted as one of the best role models to follow. I wish Jay every success in his endeavours.

Intelligent Traffic Director (ITD): Intelligent, hardware-based, multi-terabit solution that allows you to build a scalable architecture for Layer 3 and Layer 4 traffic distribution, load balancing, and redirection. ITD was the winner of the ‘Cisco Pioneer Award 2015' and ‘Interop 2015'. Excelled as one of the core Team Leads to design and develop multiple critical features of ITD. Helmed a diverse, high-performance team to design and implement various features on the ITD roadmap like multiple ‘fail-action' algorithms, and convergence optimizations. Guided flawless deployment of the feature and expertly supported it through production for industry-leading customers like Korean Telecom, Bank of America, Vodaphone, etc. Played an integral role in cross-functional effort to procure a multi-million order from Korean Telecom through multiple rounds of feature enhancements, scaling ITD from 32 to 128 nodes, and convergence improvements. Worked with Marketing to get the requirements, design and develop required features, and deploy ITD as their Data Center Load Balancer for Reliance. ITD was the first feature to be developed and delivered in Agile, as a first pilot program in Nexus platform. Streamlined Engineering development process through impeccable integration of Unit-Test-Automation, Regression sanities and code-reviews, driving a 50% reduction in incoming bugs. SmartChannel: Hardware-based solution using Layer 2 Vlan ACLs to load balance traffic at hardware level. Orchestrated and implemented SmartChannel on both Nexus 7K and 9K Managed development of feature as “Proof of Concept” for Go Daddy Designed and modified SmartChannel feature to become a pure software feature by making it platform-independent, which can be deployed on any switching platform with minimal effort. Used Rally to more efficiently assign, track and manage projects and timelines through Agile methodology. Lead, designed and developed multiple Layer 2/3 features on networking protocols including STP, VLAN, VPC, VTP, Fabricpath, Private Vlan (PVLAN), etc. Development experience in numerous other areas like L2 gateway STP, Phy-Port VPC, Fex-VPC, etc.  Played a pivotal role in increasing Customer Satisfaction by coordinating with customers to understand issues, recreate topologies, try out fixes/workarounds on production networks and discuss future enhancements.  Debugged and resolved issues causing memory corruptions, leaks, crashes, and packet loss Lead of Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) Component: Managed team of three to develop vital STP features and enhancements; wrote complete functional and design specifications, as well as test plans. STP Scale: Increased logical port number support in N7K for both RPVST (16K) and MST (300K) mode through multiple custom-tailored design and implementation changes. VPC (Virtual Port Channel) Scale and convergence: Chosen as member of VPC Scale Architecture team to improve scale and convergence; increased number of VPC legs to 750 and convergence level brought down to 1 second on failure recovery. Vlan Trunk Protocol (VTP) version 3: Enabled VTP v3 on Nexus 7K switches and expertly implemented MST configuration as the very first non-Vlan application to use VTP. VXLAN on VPC: Coordinated with team to implement VXLAN in N7K; focused on STP support in VPC environment. Overlay Transport Virtualization (OTV): STP Support for Cisco's industry-first technology that extends L2 applications across distributed data centers. Vinci on N7k: Vinci is a DataCenter fabric built on a spine-leaf topology that provides optimal connectivity at Layer-2 and Layer-3. Added STP Support for specific vinci based interfaces (VSI). ‘STP Lite': Designed and implemented a ‘lite' version of STP on MDS/FCOE platforms for faster convergence, including single-sourcing different flavors of STP code from N5K and N7K platforms into one.
