Chief Product Officer
-
Aug 2016 - Oct 2017
Led our 90-person product organization including product management, engineering, design, QA, and customer service to deliver improvements to our amazing suite of products, like our playfield-leveling SAT preparation product, and a successful back-to-school launch of all-new products to serve classrooms.Created a product leadership team that helped to shift us away from a largely functional focus to a focus on the product team's responsibility to deliver on the needs of our users (internal and external). Re-aligned the working teams around those customer needs, too.Coached the leaders across functions to scale their abilities and impact to support our growing team and ambitions.

Chief People Officer
-
Nov 2015 - Oct 2017
Built out the People Ops, HR, and recruiting functions to ensure that KA could scale to meet its ambitious mission. Doing this we hit 40% YoY headcount growth targets, managed communication and rollout of company strategy, and delivered improved services (e.g. performance management) across the org.Launched our first org-level diversity and inclusion initiatives including improving hiring practices, providing training to all team members, and sponsoring conversations and affinity groups.Defined and refined key cultural touchstones like KA's Community Guidelines: https://goo.gl/JfAVqs

Design Lead
-
Nov 2010 - Oct 2015
In 2010, I became a member of KA's founding team as its first designer and product manager. Over the next 5 years, I helped to scale Khan Academy's product from serving 100k users a month to over 10 million as an IC and eventually as a team lead and manager. As a lead, I helped build both the design and product management orgs through hiring and defining the culture of collaboration between these functions and engineering. We grew the overall product org from two to almost 90 (in 2017).As a manager, working closely with my counterpart and partner-in-crime Ben Kamens in engineering, we defined career progression across all of the disciplines in product along with what it takes to be a manager. These definitions heavily influenced career development, performance management, and what it meant to be a manager across all of KA.
