Supervises tactical and technical fire direction within the battalion. With guidance from the battalion commander, S3, S2, and the targeting officer, the FDO decides where and how the battalion and any reinforcing units will fire. Responsible for developing and supervising the safety certification program for four battery Fire Direction Centers and 20 soldiers. Develops and supervises input of appropriate parameters into the AFATDS to provide responsive fires across the supported unit’s battle space. Also participates in the MDMP process and verifies dissemination of fire plans, schedules of fires, and schedules of targets to subordinate units. Directly supervise the Battalion Fire Direction section.
