International Travel
-
Apr 2016 - Feb 2017
During this period I undertook my OE (overseas experience), traveling widely through Central and South America, from Mexico in the north, down to Argentina in the south. This period of travel furthered my knowledge of Indigenous cultures and Archaeology immensely. I was fortunate to witness first-hand incredible Archaeological sites dating from the periods of the Aztec, Maya, Inca and Amazonian cultures. I also conducted several field projects while on route which allowed me to meet and work alongside living descendants of these great and complex cultures. My Spanish also developed well! Show less

Archaeologist - Barrow Island Archaeology Project (BIAP)
-
Jul 2015 - Dec 2015
The Barrow Island Archaeology Project (BIAP) provides an opportunity for UWA staff and volunteers to undertake ongoing fieldwork and research on an island off north-west Australia that is also the centre of one of Australia's biggest oil and gas operations, the Gorgon Project. The project is funded through the combination of an Australian Research Council Discovery Grant and Chevron in-kind support. Working alongside Winthrop Professor Peter Veth (UWA), I was involved in excavations at a large cave on the western side of the island which contains significant material that will allow Australian archaeologists to further develop an understanding of Pleistocene maritime societies in north-west Australia. In addition to the excavations, I also took part in an extensive field survey of the Barrow Island surface archaeology: identifying, recording and collecting lithic artefacts for further study by BIAP colleagues at Sacramento University in the USA. Following the completion of the 2015 BIAP fieldwork season, I maintained involvement in the processing of BIAP materials at the UWA Archaeology lab for use in upcoming research publications by UWA Archaeologists.
