I had the great pleasure to work directly with Jason at CCA’s Center for Art and Public Life. Jason’s approach to design and marketing projects was organized and time-efficient, with practiced balance between encouraging innovative outreach campaigns and adhering to the College’s design standards. He is adept at switching between a project’s nitty gritty details and its relationship to programmatic/organizational goals, and does so with patience, open ears and a great sense of humor.

    • Peer Reviewer for The Journal of Artistic Research
      • Jun 2020 - Jul 2020

The Journal for Artistic Research (JAR) is an international, online, Open Access and peer-reviewed journal that disseminates artistic research from all disciplines. JAR invites the ever-increasing number of artistic researchers to develop what for the sciences and humanities are standard academic publication procedures. It serves as a meeting point of diverse practices and methodologies in a field that has become a worldwide movement with many local activities. JAR provides a digital platform where multiple methods, media and articulations may function together to generate insights in artistic research endeavours. It seeks to promote expositions of practice as research. In JAR artistic research is viewed as a developing field where research and art are positioned as mutually influential. Recognising that the field is ever developing and expanding, JAR remains open to continued re-articulations of its publishing criteria. The JAR Network further facilitates exchange among the artistic research community. This part of the site is an extension of JAR rather than part of the peer reviewed journal. In the Network we publish writing that actively responds to issues in the field, allowing JAR to give focus to developments and make public some of the important discussions that artistic researchers have in their own local contexts. The Research Catalogue The Research Catalogue (RC) is a searchable, documentary database of artistic research work and its exposition. The RC is an inclusive, open-ended, bottom-up research tool that supports the journal's academic contributions. https://www.jar-online.net/journal-artistic-research Show less

Jason Engelund "Meta-Landscapes and Visual Ambient Drones" January 14 - March 4 2017 My artworks encompass both the psychological and physical landscapes, together making the meta-landscape. Through these images I explore visual perception and its role in how we make meaning of memory and experience. I use photography as a metaphor for the mind’s camera eye and my process is abstraction. Images are made with film and created in camera through multiple exposure. I compose a piece by taking multiple shots on one film frame and combine together different elements from the seascape and the sun. Considering human experience and metaphors embedded within landscape I begin to trace stories, new mythologies of sea and landscape. A revelation or idea had after long contemplation of the sun and sea might be inspiration for an artwork. While looking out at the sky and ocean, we might recall that the horizon is an illusion and that the sun never sets. Show less

After successful implementation of strategic programs serving as the Studio Director, I have resigned from the position and am happy to return to teaching at the art center. During the years of work focused on strategic development for the art center I maintained the open studio and art presentations "Art Space". In these friendly, open studios everyone is encouraged to come and work on their art, and learn from each other, and engage in round table discussions following presentations I hosted. Presentations included "Drawing, fundamental in line, shape, value, and Charcoal Techniques from 1800s France", and "Introduction to Aesthetics, with a comparative analysis of Western Renaissance and Japanese Wabi Sabi Aesthetics", to the two part presentation on "Transcendentalism and Art". Not only these topics, but also for the young student artist, a big hit "Superhero Drawing Intro Class". In Fall of 2019 my classes will be open for enrollment. Show less

    • Art Center Studio Director
      • Jan 2017 - Mar 2019

In 2016 after working as a teacher and needed behind the scenes during the art center’s transitional period, I drafted the proposal to create the “Studio Director” position. Starting in 2017 in this new pilot position, I put my experience to work at the Adobe Art Center. As Art Center Studio Director I envisioned and implemented strategic development to create long term, sustainable improvements. These are focused around the goal of providing free and affordable opportunities for people to engage in the arts and develop their cultural currency in 21st century skills, creative problem solving, critical analysis, collaboration and communication, the cornerstones of creative practice. Through strategic and long term vision planning I guided the arts center in creating cultural impact through improving and developing institutional and community partnerships, networks, programs, and engaged with artists, students and instructors to create a vibrant arts center. Projects included ground level work in improving the facilities to creating communication with and engaging with the community, to housing my personal project "Arts Resources for Teachers" a free resource website funded by a grant from Crayola to support public school teachers.
