Conservation and Display Technician

service consists of Verulamium Museum of Roman Life and The Museumof St Albans a social history museum of the city an off site store and a medieval clock tower. The duties of the role were varied and were accomplished by on job training from the head conservator encompassing : • Supporting the Conservators in basic remedial conservation work including :- • Loss filling / Consolidation • Colour matching of fills / Reversible repairs • Cleaning / Object handling and packaging / object storage supports • Mounting objects / The safe storage and environment of objects in off site storage unit The service also has a temporary exhibition space and my display duties included : • Design and construction of exhibition display and set items • Instillation of displays / Lighting exhibitions • Co-ordinating staff and volunteers • Mounting objects / Case dressing / safe display of objects in conjunction with Conservator • Sourcing exhibition construction materials I was also responsible for the gallery across the museums and these duties included : • Arranging Maintenance • Arranging A/V repairs by external contractors • liaising with external contractors • Working with FOH to solve any issue they may have had in the gallery My achievement in this role were to conserve and consolidate an extremely friable set of human skeletal remains for an external client and help with the construction of a new case for display. The restoration and consolidation and loss replacement of the gesso on a extremely damaged Edwards rocking horse and the colour matching of the fills so as to retain the age of the object but for it to be completely undamaged. I have also worked on sphelter figures , The Verulamium Mercury figurine ,Roman glass wear , Helmets ,cart models and other items. I also worked with Out Sphere designs to have a number of museum objects photographed in 360 º and mounted a human skull for this method for a television Documentary program. Show less

a receiving house, part of St Albans district council leisure services. The theatre had a regular program of adult and Children's theatre, music events and classes and courses . Initially employed as a lighting technician and taught on the job I progressed after 6 years to Ops Manager my responsibility was to work with the business manager to run the venue and these duties in this role were very varied and included : • Foh Manager / Line manager for Venue technicians • To order bar stock / Daily Banking • FOH and bar duties if staffing needs necessitate • Staffing rotas • Children's Theatre programmer • Health and Safety / Day to day venue operations • Re design lighting plan for venue / Design lighting if productions required • Liaise with external artists and contractors • Keep venue maintenance up to date • Set ups and get outs with technicians • To be technical director of St Albans Festivals My acheivments in this role was to run an extremely successful children's theatre program and commission productions from company's for this purpose . To design lighting and set for large outdoor festival productions To be a company director and lighting designer for two in house touring theatre company's To build strong community connections To run a successful venue During this time I have also toured with other company's such as the Covent garden opera house venture, Design lighting for other touring productions and worked in many other venues Show less
