Provide respiratory care as only therapist on night shift for a 48-bed acute care hospital. Responsible for treating all respiratory related issues within the hospital. These responsibilities include: Assisting the Emergency Room staff in airway management of all trauma and critical care situations involving CPR, intubation, invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), obtaining and recording arterial and venous blood gases, conscious sedation and end-tidal CO2 monitoring, breathing treatments, and secretion mobilization and suctioning. Performs quality control and maintenance on blood gas and co-oximetry instruments. Provide care to a 6 bed ICU with the autonomy to decide initial parameters and adjust invasive/non-invasive ventilator and HFNC settings based on interpretation of the patient's condition. Provide care to a 27 bed Medical/Surgical unit. These responsibilities include: Conducting “Evaluate and Treat Protocol” assessments, administering breathing treatments, incentive spirometry, PEP therapy, CPT, ECG's, trach care, CPAP management, and smoking cessation education. The hospital has a level 2 status nursery that allows babies up to six weeks premature to be treated. Responsibilities include: Assisting Labor/Delivery staff in every newborn delivery (regardless of risk level), administering oxygen, invasive and non-invasive positive pressure, pharyngeal and tracheal suctioning, surfactant therapy, and CPR to any neonate in distress.
