Berkeley, California, United States As an in-person volunteer for the WDDC, I helped over 200 clients get access to case management services and other basic needs the center offers. I have restocked over 16,000 pounds of food and groceries donated by local food banks and collectives in Berkeley. Beyond resource distribution, it was crucial that I created an atmosphere that is welcoming and safe for unhoused women and their families. Beyond resource distribution, it was crucial that I created an atmosphere that is welcoming and safe for unhoused women and their families. I made hot and nutritious meals and served them during breakfast and lunch. I learned to adapt to the center’s unstable inventory and adjust them to the needs of the unhoused. I continue to volunteer with the WDDC virtually through the social media committee to inform others about houselessness. Show less

Since then, I have held 16 clinics at 5 different Gurdwaras [Sikh temples] over the last 2 years. Over 200 patients have gone through our clinics and had access to blood pressure, blood sugar, Punjabi providers, and education on prevalent health issues impacting the population. Importantly, BPSHI is IRB approved and the demographic data collected during clinics will serve to fill in the immense lack of public data on Punjabi patients.
