    • UCLA Labor Summer Fellow | AFT College Staff Guild Local 1521 | Student Internship Program
      • Jun 2023 - Aug 2023

Under the UCLA Labor Center and UCLA Dream Resource Center, this fellowship aims to work directly with the Los Angeles community with social justice efforts and worker's rights. As a fellow, I will organize on behalf of the Labor Summer program in connection with the American Federation of Teachers Local 1521, the union representing over 4,000 full-time and adjunct faculty working in the nine community colleges within the Los Angeles Community College District. I am working to align labor rights issues with parallel fights for equity for marginalized communities in higher education. I will collaborate with other fellows and community organizations with a vision for worker justice and labor rights. Show less

Selective undergraduate fellowship program under the Office of the Governor for partnered colleges in California. Fellows complete at least 300 hours of community engagement dedicated to the priority areas of K-12 Education, Climate Action, and Food Insecurity. For my host site, I served as a teacher aid for Magnolia Science Academy, a STEM-oriented charter school aiding minority students to ensure their academic preparedness for higher education. I focused on assisting English as a Second Language (ESL) students during their school days and provided academic support along with higher education guidance to around 30-40 students throughout the school week. My diligence and exceptional service have been noticed and acknowledged by my peers and the leadership team as I was nominated for an award, in recognition of your persistence and commitment during the program's inaugural year. I was the recipient of the "Most Supportive Fellow" Award for my engagement with the program and my cohort. Show less

I oversaw the direction, planning, and execution of all General Member-related activities and am responsible for membership retention via building a community. Additionally, I kept track, collected, and uploaded quarterly GPA submissions & resource contributions from our General Members to our Resource Bank.Working with Undergraduate Leadership, I plan and execute events for General Members (i.e. bi-weekly study meetups, socials, etc.). In addition, I communicated open Mentorship events to General Members to ensure they maintain their active-member status (i.e. Community Service, Mentor-Planned Social, Professional Workshops, etc.) and manage event attendance at all official LEAF events. As the IRLE's work-study student worker, I was tasked with sorting, organizing, and digitizing over 100 files for IRLE director Dr. Valenzuela on his work with Day Labor research. I sorted and stored Dr. Valenzuela's work in a digital database and during the work-study period, I also contributed to reorganizing and collecting new data for an additional, separate research project Dr. Valenzuela was simultaneously working on with the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
