As a former division 1 collegiate athlete, I experienced many challenges, growing pains, and success. I gained many new skills throughout my career which not only molded me into the individual I am today, but also helped shape my perspective, and lead me to my purpose in life. I learned skills such as hard work, dedication, perseverance, consistency, team cohesion, and leadership. I also learned about the importance of being proactive and productive in school. As a student-athlete time is very limited which also helped me learn how to manage my time and find balance as both a student and athlete in order to get the most out of each day. I learned how to effectively communicate with all of my professors ahead of time when I received our schedule for our upcoming seasons. This showed them that I took care of my responsibilities and also held myself accountable academically. I also represented something bigger than myself which was the CSUN Women's Basketball program. Being a part of this program was a privilege, and I treated it with respect every single day by being self-aware of my actions on and off the court. I made sure I represented both my University and basketball program in a positive way because it was a representation of my character and I care about my reputation. Show less
