After difficult times with Symbian and Meego discontinuation, were able to build a world-class technology team which delivered excellent results over and over again.

  Tampere Managing requirements, architecture definition and technical supplier evaluations for high-end version of new generation chipsets. Maintained chipset roadmaps and was responsible for the technical definition, execution and follow-up of application engine strategy. 5th generation Nokia devices done based on this definition sold later >100M units and had highest market share among smartphones for 3-4 years.

  Tampere Leading DSP SW line of ~25 engineers, technology strategy planning and execution and managed small DSP SW projects in the area. Recruited 10+ talents from outside and supervised ~10 Master’s Thesis. Contributed and acted as a delegate in ETSI SMG2 (Protocol Layer 1) standardization (HSCSD, GPRS, EDGE).

  Tampere Leading SW development for new GSM data bearers (14.4kbs and HSCSD) and system design for respective chipset used in >100M sold devices, both data cards and mobile phones. Actively contributed in the standardization of new GSM data bearers by inventing technical solutions (couple of patents) and acting as an ETSI SMG2 delegate for these topics.

  • Sep 1994 - Dec 1995

  Tampere Algorithm, system design and DSP SW development of GSM circuit switched multislot data demonstrator and standardization support. Developed (at the time hugely futuristic ;-) demonstrator showing live video over GSM phone, demonstrated successfully by the Intel CEO Andrew Grove during his keynote speech in Telecom 95 fair. Developed and implemented new proprietary channel coding for the demonstrator. Codec was also later proposed to GSM standard (14.4kbps codec).
