As Senior Resident Assistant I had several obligations. I was first required to learn and maintain knowledge of school policy and how it was to be enforced. Next, I assisted in providing the training necessary for our RA’s to know and implement the policy. I alongside others on staff held meetings to determine if the RA’s training was up-to-date or if any extra training was needed in other areas. It also supplied me with opportunity to deal with all different types of people, enforce policy and safety within the resident halls, and create a fun atmosphere for residents to live. This time has allowed me to make large improvements in my leadership and communication skills. I have learned how to effectively find out the problems residents’ are having and find quick and reliable ways to solve them. In addition, it has taught me to lead by example and push myself and other staff members to grow as people. Lastly, I also assisted in scheduling weekly meetings to keep tabs on the status of our team. This meant individual meetings to see how their job was going, how life was going, and if they needed any help. It also meant completing weekly reports and end of semester surveys as to how successful our team was at completing our mission. A mission to serve Alma College in enforcing policy and providing the best resident experience to students living within the resident halls. Show less
