Bio
Nur Qistina Abdul Wahid
As one of the co-founders of The Global Citizen that I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with, Jared is a strong leader who cares deeply about the mission of the organisation, his team members, partners and students. As a manager, his ability to create a collaborative work environment has helped all members, regardless of their level of experience, feel empowered to share their thoughts and ideas, and contribute to the team to the best of their abilities. His focus on consistently improving and refining our programs and systems have allowed the company to take the necessary steps towards achieving the ambitious vision that we have as a co-curricular education social enterprise. Under Jared’s guidance and leadership, I have been able to learn and grow beyond what I had hoped for in my short few years at the company thus far, which is a sentiment that many of my other co-workers share.
Andy Soh
Jared has a burning passion for education, both in learning and discovering the world around him, and more importantly, sharing it with those around him. His involvement in Model United Nations and Model ASEANs since his university days (first as a participant, then as an organizer and trainer), along with the extensive work done at The Global Citizen, exemplify his gifts of curiosity and knowledge sharing. He has also been deeply committed to contributing to the community through these gifts. While we worked together on The Global Citizen since its infancy, Jared remained steadfast in the mission to increase accessibility to skills training and global citizenship education for vulnerable and underprivileged youths - often encouraging the team to look for opportunity to reduce costs without compromising the quality of education and training - and then passing these cost-savings back to the students, especially those who most need it. When it comes to running and managing a start-up, he is also both visionary and opportunistic - being able to identify the company's North star and maintain its direction, while also being sufficiently nimble to exploit new opportunities. The start-up's ability to expand into both China and Vietnam despite its infancy is testament to his calculated risk taking and the team's efforts.
