Founder and Executive Director of a public, not-for-profit charter school network whose mission is to prepare its students to succeed in college. After opening in 2011 with two grades (6th and 7th) and 133 students, managed its expansion and led the school through a merger with Newark Legacy Charter School, resulting in a network currently comprised of 5 campuses across Newark that serve over 1,600 students in grades Pre-K through 12th. Leads the school in its day-to-day operations and in its continued expansion according to the following guiding principles: the belief in community, differentiation of instruction, and high expectations for academic growth. Results include: first two high school graduating classes have a 100% college acceptance rate and were awarded almost $8 million in first-year scholarships. Currently, over 85% of students enrolled in a 2- or 4-year college following graduation. Work closely with Senior Leadership Team to oversee the instructional, financial, and operational management of the network, and to ensure the success of our 1600+ scholars and staff of over 200 full-time employees and 100 AmeriCorps members. Our school has a commitment to diversity, and creating and sustaining an inclusive environment for every member of the school community. Great Oaks Legacy has the 7th highest percentage of African-American or Hispanic staff of all 662 districts in NJ. Show less

The MATCH Corps is a one-year Urban Education fellowship program. It is possibly the most competitive such program in the nation, more competitive than admission to the Harvard Graduate School of Education or Teach for America.Elite recent college graduates from excellent universities across the country commit one year to public service in Boston. They receive a modest living stipend and housing in a dorm on the top floor of our school. After that, some go into teaching; some to med school and law school; and others get involved in public policy. The goal is clear: college success for each student. Most would become the first in their families to achieve that. Therefore, the demands are intense: many Corps work 60 hour weeks, usually with two students at a time. With freshmen and sophomores, Corps tutor in the basics, responding to acute needs. With juniors and seniors, the support is for students to master AP coursework, as well as classes at nearby Boston University. Show less
