The Cambridge University International Model United Nations (CUIMUN) was founded by a group of Cantabrigians eager to develop and share the knowledge and abilities associated with the fine art of diplomacy. The First Session was held in 1994, and the Conference was expanded significantly following Cambridge’s hugely successful hosting of the 1998 edition of Harvard WorldMUN, the Olympics of Model United Nations. Now in its twenty-first year, this showpiece of international debate and compromise that is CUIMUN is one of the most established, historic and prestigious Conferences on the European, and indeed global, MUN circuit. The Secretariat for the Twenty-First Session looks forward to raising the bar even higher in November 2015.

iGEM began in January of 2003 with a month-long course at MIT during their Independent Activities Period (IAP). The students designed biological systems to make cells blink. This design course grew to a summer competition with 5 teams in 2004, 13 teams in 2005 - the first year that the competition grew internationally - 32 teams in 2006, 54 teams in 2007, 84 teams in 2008, and 112 teams in 2009. Projects ranged from a rainbow of pigmented bacteria, to banana and wintergreen smelling bacteria, an arsenic biosensor, Bactoblood, and buoyant bacteria
