Next month (June 2020) officially marks our [Mavens] entrance into our teenage years. As we start this new phase of our development, I have reflected back on our early days and Jan Newman stands out. I started Mavens with a simple plan: to collaboratively work with passionate cloud technologists to solve interesting challenges and make an impact in the world, all while having fun. One key ingredient to make that happen was an experienced HR professional, Jan Newman. Jan started working with Mavens after we had hired the first 4-5 folks. Once she started working with our team, she quickly took on the heavy burden of establishing a more formal on-boarding/off-boarding process and a competitive employee benefit program. With Jan's help, we were able to focus on our business and accelerate growth across the US and Europe. Without Jan's help, we would have never been able to hire in 20 states across the US and open our EU office in the UK. Jan not only supported our organization's growth, she also took the time to truly understand each new Maven as they joined our team. Jan was a tremendous asset to our early growth and I highly recommend her for any entrepreneur launching a new venture.

Janice was instrumental in providing HR support and services for our growing company in its early years. She was able to assist on domestic and international, specifically European, hiring practices as well as establishing our original HR practices and employee guidelines. Jan was a pleasure to work with and a true thought leader in HR best practices and emerging trends.

JAG is a ground-breaking nonprofit program that has been credited with changing the lives of nearly three-quarters of a million young people across the country by helping them stay in school and move on to pursue higher education and gainful employment. The results of the program have been so inspiring that Nevada adopted the JAG model in 2014 to serve as a lifeline for at-risk youth in the state. The original JAG model was launched in 1979 in Delaware and has since been adopted by 32 states, including Nevada. JAG Nevada is a nonprofit organization affiliated with the national JAG program, that promotes high school graduation, school-to-work and school-tocareer transition assistance for students who may face challenges in succeeding. The model is a multi-faceted, multi-year program that helps guide high school students in their junior and senior years toward a successful future, and continues to follow up with them for 1 year after graduation. As the state of Nevada continues efforts in workforce and economic development, one of the most important areas of concentration is education. The future of Nevada depends on building an educated workforce and providing skilled workers to employers who can compete in a global marketplace. Studies show that youth who fail to graduate struggle with other challenges that prevent them from reaching their fullest potential. The holistic approach of the JAG model ensures that targeted students have the tools they need to graduate high school and become productive members of the workforce.

ExecConnect is an exciting new initiative that has been launched by The Public Education Foundation. This is in response to the Nevada Legislature passing AB 469, that mandates significant organizational changes in CCSD (Clark County School District), which is the 5th largest school district in the country. The decision-making processes up to this point, have largely been made at the central administrative level and those decisions, and the budget dollars to support those decisions, are being pushed out to the individual schools. Now, site personnel and the parents with children in that school are empowered to make the decisions locally. Executive Partners have a background in business and decision-making experience at the executive level. Those Partners also have experience in organizational change and change management, and team up with administrative and/or site-based personnel to provide an outside perspective and assistance to the leadership at CCSD. Partners are mentors, sounding boards and interact regularly to further this very critical transition process. ExecConnect is also a great opportunity for Partners to learn about the complexities of running a school district. All this is intended to result in better student outcomes for the children attending schools in the CCSD.
