Editor, ParentsCanada magazine

Sep 2009 - Dec 2016
As managing editor and editor, I helped reinforce the magazine's key objective: to support parents rather than judge them. Duties include developing editorial lineups, assigning stories, working with freelancers, managing production flow, working with editors, art directors and sales team, managing budget. PUBLIC APPEARANCES: I represented ParentsCanada television programs across Canada (Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Kitchener, Toronto, Ottawa, Peterborough, Montreal, Halifax and St. John's). I was also interviewed on radio and television in more than 25 markets across the country on topics including handling homesick campers, raising transgender kids, cyber safety for kids, managing holiday stress and helping kids understand tragic news. REPORTING AND WRITING: I reported on issues such as mental health (http://bit.ly/2134eX7), transitioning to university/college (http://bit.ly/2eZkKFv) and the importance of walking to school (http://bit.ly/2f0Y1Zz). I interviewed researchers and authors in parenting, such as Dr. Leonard Sax (The Collapse of Parenting) http://bit.ly/2fiahIP, Dr. Frances Jensen (The Teenage Brain) http://bit.ly/2eUedy7, and Brigid Schulte (Overwhelmed) http://bit.ly/2fryRWX. PARTNERSHIPS: - Healthy Me Week (http://www.healthymeweek.ca/), an initiative led by Companies Committed to Kids and involving more than 20 media outlets and companies marketing to kids or about kids. - Annual Toy Testing event at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. http://bit.ly/21rERP0. - "It Doesn't Have to Hurt" campaign, led by the IWK Children's Hospital in Halifax - Cyber-Seniors (http://bit.ly/1wfnzox) Show less
