Janet and I became acquainted through a mentoring program called "New Pathways for Youth" that helps at-risk youth take ownership of their lives. Our relationship blossomed immediately because Janet is one of the warmest people you'll ever meet. She didn't need to, but Janet graciously offered her incredible baking skills to all the mentors in the program. She offered to bake a free cake for each youth on their birthday (there are about 30 youth). One of the kids (a 15-year old boy) who I mentor had a birthday almost immediately after her offer, so I took advantage. In typical Janet fashion, she went far beyond the call of duty. She created a varsity-letter cake that spoke directly to him. I took it to his school and his classmates literally "oooo'd" and "ahhhh'd". The other boy that I mentor is turning 16 next week, so I recently made the same request--she didn't hesitate for even a second. Today is Thanksgiving and I'm thankful for the Janet LaDue's of the world. Janet's cakes are beautiful, tasty, and made with love. She comes highly recommended.

      Partnering with the state to provide contracted parenting education and supervised visits for families involved with DCS. As a Parent Aide I focus on efforts to reunite parents with their children who have been removed by the Arizona Department of Child Safety. Our ultimate goal is to encourage birth parents to gain the skills & abilities they need to maintain a safe home and environment for their child. The Parent Aide ministry provides an opportunity to develop relationships with parents and to encourage them while they are in a difficult period in their lives. As a Parent aide I work with families & DCS to strengthen families and aid in the reunification process. These services are only available for families referred to ABCS. A parent aide helps the family primarily in two ways. Supervised Visits Parent aides facilitate supervised visits between parents and their children. Supervised visits occur for families to enjoy each other and maintain contact with one another while their case with DCS is being resolved. Parenting Coaching In addition by spending additional time each week providing parenting coaching 1:1 to the parents. As a Parent aide I provide a range of support services, instruction and assistance to parents to improve their skills & ability to fulfill parenting roles and responsibilities providing help in a variety of ways: · Age-appropriate child development · Appropriate discipline and problem-solving techniques · Life skills training · Nutrition and meal planning · Household management · Community resources · Employment consultation · Drug/alcohol education · Budgeting and managing finances · Time management · Healthy relationships · Appropriate caregivers · Self-sufficiency As a Parent aide this provides a fantastic opportunity to invest in families—often when the families are in one of the hardest periods of their lives—and truly provide hope and care to hurting families and children.
