131 Sunflower Hub is an entrepreneurial impact hub based in the Adentan Municipality affiliated with the Ghana Society for Education Technology(GSET). In partnership with Ghana Tech Lab with support from World Bank, Young Africa Works, Mastercard Foundation, Soronko Academy and Ministry of Communication, an Introduction to Data Science and Analytics was organised at the 131 Sunflower Hub for 26 ladies and 16 gentlemen with interest in Data Science but have no prior knowledge. This training was in accordance with Ghana Tech Lab's Pathways to Sustainable Employment (PaSE) program through which trainees who are entrepreneurs and unemployed are supported through skills-building, seed funding, incubation, acceleration and remaining trainees are linked to employment opportunities. As the trainer, I took them through: - an overview of Data Science: its techniques and tools, - introduction to Excel for Data Analysis(excel functions-lookup, charts, pivot tables and dashboard in excel), Introduction to Power BI(Microsoft Power BI, Connecting to different Data Sources, navigating Power Bi, Power Query for Data Transformation and Creating Business-oriented Dashboards for data storytelling) - Introduction to Python programming and Python for Data Science(Variables and Data Types, Lists and DIctionaries, Loops and Conditional Statements, Functions, File and Exception Handling, NumPy and Pandas, and Data Visualization with Matplotlib & Seaborn). - Git & Github - SQL - Machine Learning with sklearn library(Logistic, polynomial, simple & Multiple linear regression, naive bayes models) - Case studies Some soft skills learnt include teamwork, data storytelling skills, building quality LinkedIn & Github profiles, project management and others. After training, trainees get posted to companies for about 3 months to put skills learnt to use which might lead to retention at the company. Trainees with start-up ideas are taken through incubation to develop upon their ideas. Show less

I learnt so much from resource persons, organisers, coach and other participants. One main takeaway was the strong business relation between Ghana 🇬🇭 and the Netherlands 🇳🇱 and it's sustainability. I also learnt about practical ways to generate sustainable solutions for problems in businesses which in the long run benefits the society. We practised this by helping some entrepreneurs from Ghana Innovation Hub with their problems. Furthermore, learnt about team work as I teamed with two other brilliant minds from the Netherlands to solve a problem for Legon Botanical Gardens. Moreover, I learnt to be open minded, innovative with sustainability in mind. This experience was life-changing. Show less
