During this period I and my horse retired from Dressage competition and I undertook private administrative roles. I proof read a recipe book for Ainsley Harriott, the TV Chef, as part of a charity project. This position unfortunately ended in redundancy in January 1989 when the company moved its Head Office to Northampton after a takeover. The position was a demanding and fulfilling one, as dictated by four Board level directors. This was an incredibly busy and pressured job. Correspondence internally and externally was enormous. There was a large amount of customer contact and problem solving involved within this role and I particularly enjoyed taking part in the choice of 'next season' lines and advertising. I was being groomed for a Managerial role when I contracted acute Glandular Fever and had to leave Burberry's due to the severity of the illness. This was an incredibly busy and pressured job. This was my first job after leaving Monkwearmouth College/Sunderland University. I applied for the job from Pitman 2000 magazine in the North East and was given a telephone interview from Alperton, Wembley. I moved to Pinner and began work immediately. I worked for Derek Cook, the Manager, and 4 engineers, typing reports, up-dating the monthly figures and made the relevant servicing appointments for the canning machines. All 5 men I worked for smoked heavily and after a period of time I decided to leave and find a job in London. Show less
