Advocacy Intern

Sep 2019 - Jun 2020
At Unchained at Last, I lobbied state legislators and their staffers to pass brightline bills ending child marriage at the state level, focusing on Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, and the US Virgin Islands. I learned how to monitor and track bills through their legislative cycles and how to succinctly explain the dangers of child marriage as a human rights abuse to those with the power to enact change. I also traveled to Boston and St. Paul to strategize with sponsors and lobby against child marriage in person before the COVID 19 pandemic forced Unchained to work remotely. Show less
