Jana Kleemeier was one of the top performers in a team of over 100 people. She quickly established herself as a dedicated, insightful, reliable worker. Others looked to her as a leader well before we officially gave her extra responsibilities. As one of our first Arabic content moderators, Jana developed workflows and resources that greatly improved our overall efficiency and ramp-up process for new hires. We hired Jana to help us evaluate user content for Search. Jana’s role overlapped with the Content and Engineering teams. She was required to make subjective, qualitative aesthetic judgements while adhering to intricate community guidelines. We did not have comprehensive guidelines when she started; her probing, insightful questions helped us clarify our safety standards and workflow procedures well before launch. Her work interfaced with our machine learning projects. Jana was proactive about understanding not only what she was doing, but why. She came on board in the most iterative phase of this project, but the frequent changes and course corrections never flustered her. Jana is a leader. Her peers came to her for guidance every day. Her approachable, empathetic demeanor set a great tone for the whole team. She helped train new hires. Engineers recognized her abilities and competence and singled her out for challenging projects.
