The Rio Grande Community Farm was established as a nonprofit in 1997 and resides on the City of Albuquerque Los Poblanos Fields Open Space. Our mission is to connect people, earth, water and wildlife in an urban setting by farming sustainably, enhancing wildlife habitat, educating our community, and providing fresh, naturally grown food to diverse populations. RGCF practices regenerative agricultural by reducing tilling, spreading compost, maintaining cover crops throughout the year, and the non-use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. We maintain a community garden with approximately 70 rows, micro farming of quarter acre plots and a farm incubator program. RGCF maintains at least 25% of our land as wildlife habitat. The wildlife habitat areas have different canopy levels and are inhabited by a variety of birds and other animals. RGCF provides educational opportunities to people to learn about soil health, proper planting of and harvesting produce, nutritional value of produce, and regenerative practices. We provide bins for composable material drop off for the community. RGCF is part of the future of urban agriculture that contributes to a resilient, sustainable future for our community. Show less
