Sami Gardner - Career Coach

Jamie Verwys is bright, friendly, driven, and talented. As classmates, I noticed her passion for writing and how studious she was from the beginning. She is a team player who makes any task more enjoyable. Any project is improved with Jamie in the mix!

The Green Team is a grant funded group that was housed under the UA's Office of Sustainability while I was there. I wrote grant proposals for sustainability related projects on campus and also edited and assisted my team mates with their grant proposals. I managed the office's social media and did public relations/marketing tasks for the Office of Sustainability including writing and releasing press releases, setting up media interviews, creating marketing material/informational handouts, creating video and communicating with students, other departments and outside agencies. The Green Team is responsible for composting and recycling at UA athletic events and I have participated in the hands-on work of collecting and sorting trash, as well as promoting our recycle/compost efforts. The team created a project called Dodge the Dumpster where students divert items from the dumpsters as students move from the dorms. The collected items (including TVs, furniture, clothes, food and more) are sold in a surplus sale or donated to a nonprofit organization. I helped at all different stages of this project including working on collection of items, promoting the event and surplus sale, handling media requests and coverage and helping customers at the sale.
