After one year at WorldFirst, I was promoted to a Senior Linux role. Initially maintaining the same responsibilities, we also began to shift from traditional datacentre solutions to AWS. Since 2018, we have adapted our infrastucture to deploy all applications in AWS, initially using EC2, but later EKS. We have adopted Devops mentality and tooling, using packer, ansible and terraform to build platform agnostic images and deployment tooling. We now provide frictionless paths for developers to deploy applications through pipelines to EC2 or EKS environments. Show less

Starting as a Linux sysadmin, my role involved managing a broad server estate based on KVM virtualisation, supporting hundreds of in-house applications. Using configuration management and automation, we manage nginx webservers and related services such as Redis, MySQL, haproxy and others. I have also worked a lot with MySQL, helping to improve availability, monitoring and performance of a large set of replication-based instances, as well as performing disaster recovery and troubleshooting.I was also involved with helping developers deploy their applications, with capistrano, Bamboo, ansible and other tooling. In my role as Linux Administrator at Netnames, I work in a small team managing a highly diverse range of systems, providing services to customers and staff. This includes email and website hosting infrastructure running many thousands of websites, mailboxes and databases. As my range of tasks here is so diverse, I have included a readable list for clarity. - Linux web, email, application and database servers (Ubuntu, Redhat, CentOS) - Windows web, application and database servers (2012, 2008 / R2) - Highly available MySQL instances, including replication, Galera cluster and Pacemaker/Corosync. - Vmware VCenter, ESXi and associated technologies. - Mail servers supporting millions of messages per month (Postfix/Exim/Sendmail/Dovecot) Show less
