Developing a component based software architecture platform for various embedded platforms and distributed, component-ised, aerospace applications as part as part of an agile team.

    • Software Engineer (Medical Devices)
      • Jan 2021 - Jun 2022

Software development for safety and security-critical medical projects, particularly in the development of firmware for blood glucose monitors. Maintaining embedded and general-purpose application codebases with version control and testing. Utilising a range of platforms and technologies including embedded C/C++, TI MSP430, Nordic NRF, Bluetooth low energy protocol (BLE5), custom serial comms protocols, C#, .NET framework, python, unix and windows scripting.I am also required to apply a range of electronics skills: scope and logic analyser usage, data acquisition for testing, soldering components to production hardware e.g. JTAG interfaces, schematic and circuit analysis.

Software Architecture, Systems and SoftwareAs part of my MEng Project, I ported a supplier-developed firmware and communications stack to a new microcontroller platform, as part of a JLR R&D project investigating the use of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) software design principles for automotive applications. This allowed flexible deployment of hard real-time software, e.g. brake/steer by wire and active suspension damping systems, across vehicle domains over a range of hardware platforms. I fed back the knowledge I gained and lessons learned to JLR's software architecture team and provided introductory documentation and demos. I received an A grade for this project.I gained an understanding of middlewares in an automotive context; I used this knowledge to support JLR software developers using a supplier-developed middleware for virtual machines on-vehicle. I also developed demos using the middleware and provided feedback to the supplier regarding bugs and issues using JIRA.Technologies:-Embedded systems-Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS)-Service oriented architecture (SOA)-Software architecture design-Distributed computing-Real-time UDP networking-Time sensitive networking (TSN)-Embedded C, C++, and Arm assembly programming
