Adjunct Instructor

Jun 2002 - Aug 2008
I worked every summer from 2002 to 2008 as an adjunct instructor for what was first Springfield College in Illinois and then Benedictine University at Springfield. I taught four courses each summer - Elementary Spanish I and II and Intermediate Spanish I and II. Each course was an accelerated five week course and students had the opportunity to take two such courses consecutively. I had complete autonomy in the selection of the textbook, the course syllabus, the design of lessons, and student assessments.

Was selected to teach two courses of elementary Spanish as my graduate assistantship during graduate school. I prepared lessons autonomously, worked in a team to develop student assessments, and used those assessments to monitor student growth and to make adjustments to teaching in accordance with desired student learning outcomes. I was also chosen by the full-time Spanish faculty to win the Montserrat Vilarrubla Teaching Award for outstanding teaching by a graduate student.
