While acting as Lead Game Designer at Big Pixel Studios, James showed exceptional managerial skills in leading the Design department while also playing a major role within the senior leadership team. James is a great communicator and quickly earned trust and respect within the studio and wider organisation through his thoughtful nature and deep understanding of product design. James has a true passion to make the greatest games along with a keen interest and understanding of the commercial aspects of the games industry.

James is hard working, energetic, and easy to work with. I had the pleasure of working with him when he was a lead designer on a large scale mobile game. He brings good design insights to the table and is not afraid to ask questions because he is always trying to learn more and expand his skill set. James is a great addition to any team.

As the only Game Designer at BIGUMAKU, I am responsible for all design decisions within the studio. I have worked on two mobile projects; Muvimi and Hilda Creatures. I’m now hard at work on a brand new IP. Muvimi enables players to create their own short movies. Users can create actors and customise a set. Once everything is set up their scenes are brought to life using their voice, as the actor's lipsync to the words. On this project, I guided the team as we created the first non-kids… Show more As the only Game Designer at BIGUMAKU, I am responsible for all design decisions within the studio. Hilda Creatures is a creature collection app based on the hit Netflix show Hilda. At the time of writing Hilda Creatures currently has a 4.5-star rating on both platforms. Players are tasked with meeting and photographing all the magical creatures that live in the world of Trolberg. To meet these creatures, players decorate different locations which attracts creatures adding the creature to their collection library. Then ensured that these elements went into the game at the highest standard. - Designed and oversaw the development of the unique enemies for the level. - Once implemented I balanced the enemy behaviour within Unity. - I placed the enemy spawners within the Unity scene, ensuring that they spawn at the correct time, number and with the right behaviour. - Managed Junior Designers as they implemented their own features. - Created and maintained all documentation for the above responsibilities. - Offered design support for the other levels. Mission System - Early on in the project I pitched a mission system that was then decided on by the team and I lead it’s implementation into the game. - Designed a procedural system that created missions for the player. - Designed a tool that would allow the design team and I to have enough control over the missions to balance the game to a high standard without the need of a programmer. - Oversaw the development of the system to ensure that it worked as designed. - Balanced all the mission objectives within the game. - Created and maintained all documentation for the above responsibilities. - Balanced other aspects of the game including many of the player controlled characters, equippable items and the economy. - Maintained documentation for other aspects of the game design.
