As the Arboriculture Lead with Aboud & Associates, I am responsible for managing all our new and ongoing arboriculture-focused projects and provide arboricultural support to our Landscape Architects and Ecologists when required. While that takes a significant amount of my time, I still actively exercise and expand my technical arboriculture skills in tree inventory, tree risk assessment and management planning. During the spring and summer, I also get to do Butternut Health Assessments. I derive immense satisfaction from my job because I can lead and grow concurrently. As a partner in Aboud & Associates, I am involved in maintaining and growing the business and also finding the right people to add to our team. Aboud & Associates has been successful because we have always valued our clients and served them well. In this role, I am most happy about being able to provide stable, fulfilling employment to an increasing number of good people. As a person, I am a husband and father with varied interests. I am really enjoying watching my kids grow into people, with their own personalities, senses of humour and endearing foibles. I also like woodworking (especially with repurposed wood), playing Ultimate and playing music. I am most happy when sharing of my time, experience or knowledge can benefit someone in need.

    • Inventory Arborist
      • Sep 2012 - Nov 2012

As a member of the Davey Resource Group, I helped inventory the City of Ottawa's street trees. I used ArcPad software to plot street trees on a GIS layer and collected data for each tree. The data I collected for each tree included species, diameter, condition and additional notes as appropriate. This work was fast-paced and production-oriented, and I met my production goals while working safely and courteously in public spaces. • Entomology Assistant
      • Apr 2008 - Oct 2010

While at Somerville Nurseries, Inc. (SNI), I took on a leadership role in pest management. The quintessential product of my time at SNI was an integrated pest management (IPM) program I developed based on the complete history of pests encountered at the farm. This IPM program improved the monitoring and treatment efficiency of pest management at SNI.Other noteworthy contributions I made the SNI include: developing and managing a phytosanitary certification program, in partnership with the Canadian Nursery Certification Institute, to ensure that SNI exceeds the legislated standard concerning domestic movement of plant material; conducting research I conducted on two major pests, including trials on unique treatment and sampling methodologies; and coordinating Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax incentive claims.
