I've had the pleasure of working with James directly and indirectly over ~10 years at Cisco. James' career success at Cisco was based on a very strong foundational knowledge of ASIC design that led to him leading chip teams delivering complex ASIC designs for high-end routing applications. James extended beyond ASICs into running linecard development programs and eventually very large, very complex, full platform development programs such as Cisco's CRS-3 router. As the breadth increased on the programs James was running, I was always impressed by how he was able to quickly grasp the key technical or development issues that were new to him. He would then quickly assimilate this into a solid understanding of priorities and risks to ensure that the program deliverables were met or impacts were mitigated.
