Working towards the station brand plan, the role includes; focussing on securing revenue from local businesses, working closely with our commercial sales team to develop creative promotions and exciting sponsorships. I’ve been heavily involved with Branded Content activity on a national level too, as part of an elite team selected to formulate ideas and briefs on behalf of the group for clients such as Sky, Vodafone, Lloyds TSB & Coca-Cola. With the changing radio climate, I have also been tasked, and achieved the goals set, with generating non-traditional revenues for the business. Projects I have run whilst at Rock FM include numerous marketing events, staging pop shows for up to 15,000 listeners - booking artists, managing the show, talent and press on the day, overseeing the on-air broadcast alongside the actual event. An active part in the station’s music strategy; in my first 2 years at the station, tasked with growing workday listening, we grew the station’s hours by 39% after introducing a refreshed music policy, rebranding as a ‘hit music station’ and giving listeners the chance to ‘win the music’, in which we championed our core artists. Rock FM has won praise for its education schemes, Boom Radio & Days @ Rock FM, which I’ve been heavily involved in the development of and the teaching of children, students and youth groups. Our award-winning news team have covered many social issues - gaining Government endorsement, whilst our charity, Cash For Kids, have supported campaigns, one of which, gained public support by Prince Harry. Whilst at Rock FM the team won ‘Station of the Year’ at the 2010 How-Do Awards, receiving a nomination for the same title at the 2009 Music Week Awards. On a personal level I passed Bauer’s Management Training programme in 2008.

Under my management, between them, both stations generated 9 million listening hours, pulling in over 2½ million listeners in 2008. The Hits transformed its output and saw an increase of almost 70% in listening hours (to 5,758,000) and 82.5% in reach (up to 1,597,000 listeners). I introduced themed music programming to Saturday nights on The Hits, along with celebrity presented shows, a Retro Hits feature across the week, all to compliment ‘the biggest hits, right now’, which helped The Hits market share grow by 100% under my leadership. The station also received a nomination for the 2008 Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards. In June 2006, I also took on the running Smash Hits Radio. After refreshing its musical output and production, the station also saw a 36% growth in listening hours (to 3,466,000) and a 29% rise in reach (to a then record 1,003,000 listeners).
