James is an absolutely exceptional leader. Aspire Public Schools is near and dear to my heart, having served on the Board for 11 years while the organization grew from 4 schools to more than 30 schools. When the legendary founder of Aspire, Don Shalvey, chose to leave Aspire, we were naturally concerned by the challenge of finding someone who could fill such large shoes. James did more than just fill them -- he renewed the vision of the organization; inspired commitment and loyalty from students, parents, teachers and administrators; and led the organizations to new heights of achievement in providing excellent education to under-served communities. I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with James.
