    • Level 7 Football Referee
      • Apr 2018 - Present

From the age of 14, after passing the FA Referee Course, I have been a qualified football referee (Level 7) which has enabled me to develop a broad base of transferable soft skills: • Improved verbal communication, dealing professionally and respectfully with often emotionally charged children and adults • Decision-making under pressure and having the courage to stand by my judgement • On-going professional development ensures an up-to-date knowledge on current laws of the game • Compliance with legislation regarding Safeguarding, crucial due to the work involving children and young people Overall, refereeing has allowed me to gain confidence when in positions of responsibility, and provides me with the skills to be able to interact with a wide range of people in my community. I take great personal satisfaction when I can come away from a match having ensured a safe and fun environment for all involved, be it the players, coaching staff or spectators. Show less

    • Jacobs Work Experience Placement
      • Jul 2023 - Jul 2023

During a week long work experience placement at the Jacobs site in Birchwood Park, Warrington, I had the opportunity to observe how a nuclear science and engineering consultancy operates, by shadowing a number of employees in the Critical Mission Solutions side of the business. This allowed me to not only see the scientific and technical side of delivering projects for clients, but also the more corporate business side, for example, effective people management and the preparation involved in bidding for a project contract. • Observed a range of scientific techniques and equipment used in a nuclear consultancy, for example an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer and liquid scintillation counter • Introduced to the critical nature of health and safety in labs where nuclear samples are used. Undertook a site tour with the Health and Safety Advisor, who recalled recent safety incidents on site highlighting their causes and consequences, as well as what procedures will be put in place to learn from these incidents • Attended a monthly meeting with corporate managers – developed an understanding of office procedures and how the different teams work together to improve safety onsite and generate successful financial results for shareholders • Insight into consultancy and client interaction, as well as the bidding process for projects and the finance involved in delivering a project safely and efficiently Overall, I found this placement very rewarding, as it allowed me to get a broader understanding of what working in a nuclear consultancy looks like, as well as how a profitable and safe business is run.
