James is Australia's leading writer on craft beer and contributes more to the local craft beer market and its reputation than anyone else in our industry. Through his work with Good Beer Week and The Crafty Pint (www.craftypint.com) our various events have sold out and become really successful, and highly regarded celebrations of good beer.

The Crafty Pint is the leading website for craft beer in Australia. I am the founder, editor and (when time allows) writer for the site, which features beer news, features, events, interviews and much more from a growing stable of contributors, as well as a free app and a beer lovers bonus scheme called The Crafty Cabal that gives readers the opportunity to sign up and gain access to deals, giveaways, exclusive events and more across the country. I was instrumental in creating the Good Beer Week festival, an annual celebration of beer featuring 200-plus diverse events at venues across Melbourne and Victoria. I played a lead role in the direction of the festival and establishing its place within the Australian beer industry. Following the fifth Good Beer Week in 2015, I stepped down from the role as Festival Director to focus on The Crafty Pint and a growing family. • Beer Consultant and Host
      • Feb 2011 - Present

I have organised a number of beer events featuring Australian and international brewers and high end dining, usually in formats or venues that have never previously held beer events. I have also acted as a host and consultant to events, venues and festivals, including the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival, with roles including creating, running, hosting and promoting events as well as advising venues on the creation of beer lists. In 2013, alongside Clare Burder of The Humble Tumbler and Miro Bellini, I launched a new high-end, three-week craft beer course in Melbourne.

'150 Great Australian Beers – Your Guide to Craft Beer & Beyond' is a hardback book published by Hardie Grant in 2014 that was followed two years later by "The Great Australian Beer Guide". Each book is based around a selection of 150 of the best and most interesting beers available in Australia, each with tasting notes, food pairings, accompanying story and more. The beautifully presented books also offer a potted history of beer in Australia as well as introductions to brewing, beer & food matching, a multitude of beer styles and much more besides. After completing two books, I passed the baton to Luke Robertson of Ale Of A Time so I could focus on The Crafty Pint. His first book for Hardie Grant is released on August 1, 2018.

Craft Beer Rising is an annual national day in celebration of the Australian craft brewing industry. The second event is on February 28, 2015. You can view all registered events or sign up to run one at http://craftbeerrising.com.au. I launched this new venture on February 22, 2014, with the aim of "Celebrating local beer from local brewers at the best local venues." The 2015 event is sponsored by Bintani, Cryer Malt and Good Beer Week. The first Craft Beer Rising saw 100 events take place all over Australia, bringing together beer lovers and brewers to celebrate our fantastic local industry.
