As a Clinical Professor of Law at Lewis & Clark Law School, I teach students to be effective advocates for the environment. Earthrise Law Center is Lewis & Clark's in-house environmental litigation clinic; we handle precedent-setting cases on behalf of a diverse group of national, state, and local environmental organizations. Our enrolled clinical students gain real-world experience working on federal and state litigation against polluters and state and federal agencies. In 2019 I was awarded a long-term contract (the equivalent of tenure for clinical faculty) and promoted to full Clinical Professor. My typical docket involves a mix of federal citizen-suit litigation under the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts; judicial review of federal and state agency actions under those statutes; other federal litigation under the Administrative Procedure Act, Endangered Species Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act; and related administrative proceedings such as rulemakings, agency permit appeals, and contested case hearings. I have over 12 years of experience in all aspects of civil litigation, from motions practice and discovery to trial and appellate advocacy. Show less

I co-founded and ran an intermediate to advanced whitewater kayakng program for kids ages 14-18. Applying lessons learned in my previous outdoor education experiences in community-building, risk management, and swiftwater rescue, we planned and led multi-week, expedition-style kayaking programs throughout the Western United States for advanced paddlers (Class III-IV).
