Jim is all about what's BEST for young people. I would want Jim to LEAD my School District!!!

Brian Becker

Jim is a leader and practitioner when it comes to embracing and incorporating 21st Century technology and related tools into secondary education. He looks for innovative ways to include technology both inside and outside of the classroom that will complement what is being taught. Plus, as a parent of three former Eagan High School students, I've witnessed Jim's leadership and communications styles first-hand. He is an approachable and personable administrator who relates with and works well with a broad range of people, including students, parents and other community members.

Answers to Three Common Questions That Explain My Educational Philosophy 1. How do you describe today’s students? Today’s student is a multifaceted learner who is capable of learning at different rates and in a different manner than students of the past. Students today need to have all of their senses stimulated in order for them to be challenged in education. Data shows that students today learn better when their environment is incorporating technology that enhances their educational experience. Computers, Ipods, cell phones etc. are used by students for communicating and learning… Multifaceted learners need technology enhanced education so that they can be challenged for the future! 2. What special characteristics do you possess that uniquely qualifies you for this position? I am an ex-English teacher who challenged my students in the classroom with good practices that took them to the next level. I also used technology enhanced education that was on the cutting edge at the time when I was teaching. In my evaluation of teachers in the classroom, I am an advocate for technology enhanced instruction which helps the student learner. 3. How do you determine what you want students to know and be able to do? I am a believer in data driven decisions with just about everything that we do in education. Surveys when done right are tools that can be invaluable. Finding out about the students and the demographics of an area is very important; again, this is based on data compiled in order for us to make a decisions where and what we should be doing for our students. All of our data should be student driven so that we effect and affect them positively in their educational experience. Show less
