Teaching Assistant
-
Aug 2020 - Jun 2021
I worked Teaching Assistant, specializing in Economics, at Dublin City University Business School. The role of Teaching Assistant is a diverse one, encompassing a wide range of activities. My primary tasks included delivering live tutorials to students over Zoom, responding to queries, and working closely with lecturers to ensure the successful delivery of the modules. Despite the challenge posed by beginning a new job whilst working from home, I very much enjoyed working as a Teaching Assistant at DCUBS. During my time as an undergraduate student at DCU, and during both my primary and secondary education, I was very fortunate to encounter several lecturers and teachers who were willing to go above and beyond the call of duty in order to help me. As a Teaching Assistant it has been my ambition to carry forward the same devotion, which was shown to me as a student, in order to empower current students in their academic endeavors. I found it particularly rewarding when I was able to help students to understand an economic concept that they previously had difficulty grasping. Frequently this involved encouraging students to strip a seemingly complex problem back to its simplicities. In this way, my strong communication skills have been to the fore in my role as a Teaching Assistant. These skills were fundamental to me receiving the award of Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, which acknowledged how I had implemented successful pedagogical practices in my teaching. While on a J1 visa, I worked at the Shandon Court, a lively Irish pub and restaurant in the heart of East Islip. This was a really enriching endeavour, as I immersed myself in a new culture and got further hands on service industry experience. Essential to carrying out the role successfully was having the ability to learn quickly as I had to familiarize myself with the menu, and also having effective communication, interpersonal, organisational and time management skills. Sales Assistant

Jun 2018 - Jun 2018
I was assigned to work with Joe and Seph's, a London based company that produce and sell their own gourmet popcorn and sauces. I quickly had to acquaint myself with the the wide range of products that were on sale at the company stall. My primary task was to guide customers through these products in the hope of maximising sales. To do this successfully, I had to quickly build a rapport with customers, and so, drew fully on my range of communication skills. This was a valuable experience, as working as a sales assistant helped me to further develop my interpersonal and communication skills, when interacting with customers and co-workers alike. Show less
