I got to know James's work when I was Operation Manager at Doras Luimni, where he was a Support Worker with the organisation. His commitment to social justice was unquestionable, and his understanding of relevant issues was obvious in any projects he was involved with. He developed a good rapport with his clients though maintaining his professionalism at all times. Despite the often times harrowing cases, James maintained a good natured and supportive demeanour to his colleagues and clients alike. He was interested in learning and pursued many training and educational ambitions whilst working. From my experience I can say that he always operated in a truly professional and friendly manner, and is extremely conscientious and thorough in everything he does.

Dear Selection Committee, It is my distinct pleasure to wholeheartedly recommend James Ledwith as a valued staff member of any team. As the former Executive Director for the American Red Cross of Wyoming I was fortunate to come to know James as a standout amongst a strong team over the course of several years. In the time that I was fortunate enough to work with him, he was truly one of most integral team members whom we relied on heavily for projects ranging from training to teaching to leadership and he always came through with a smile and great results. James’ duties ranged the gambit of work from traditional, day-to-day project / program management to more dynamic issues relating to humanitarian work in a crisis environment. James was stellar in the one-on-one interactions with survivors who were in the midst of the worst day of their lives - his calm demeanor, empathy and caring spirit shown through in some beyond tough interactions. These soft skills are coupled with his ability to help plan, implement and carry out complex operations whether it be for an individual family or a large community following a major disaster incident. Out of three peer areas in our chapter, James constantly (and graciously) carried a large share of the metrics successfully. For many agencies, carrying the metrics is simply a mathematical concept...for James and the American Red Cross...the metrics literally translated into lives saved and community crisis averted. Thanks to James and his organizational skills, leadership abilities and his larger than life personality thousands of severely at risk homes can sleep peacefully at night knowing they have the smoke alarms and plans in place to prevent and survive home fires among other disaster situations. One disaster to highlight of the many James was involved with while he and I were working together was America’s largest rainstorm and second most expensive disaster overall in US history - Hurricane Harvey. James was specifically selected to help run
