Director Technical Services
-
Feb 2003 - Jan 2008
As Director, Technical Services I was accountable for the Australian Automobile Association’s role in all technical areas of motoring including representing consumers’ interests, developing and assessing technical research projects of national importance to Constituents (State motoring clubs) and motorists. Issues involved relate to industry practices, roadside assistance, the environment, vehicle safety, vehicle design, and road transport regulations. My principal accountabilities fell into two main areas; 1. The strategic direction for the technical agenda of relevance to motorists, such as the development, implementation and monitoring of projects on vehicle technical issues, strategic reviews of ongoing programs and representing the Australian motoring clubs at both national and international forum. 2. The roadside assistance businesses of each of the state motoring clubs where I facilitated a national approach and identify possible synergies for their business development especially in areas of provision of technical information, training, equipment and occupational health and safety. My achievements in this position include preparation of major submissions, on behalf of all Australian motoring clubs, to governments on vehicle and fuel policy issues and establishing a new company, ANCAP Australasia Ltd along with setting the strategic direction.
