Developed a research project characterizing the soil-water dynamics in a high-altitude environment that demonstrated the effects of land-use on the soil’s hydraulic properties. This National Science Foundation (NSF) funded research was part of a larger project to provide a scientific foundation for understanding the trade-offs associated with different environmental management decisions.Collected, prepared, and evaluated soil samples for physical, chemical, and morphological properties that pertained to the soil’s water-holding capacities under different land management practices.Classified multiple soil profiles using the NRCS Soil Taxonomy system to determine the physical and morphological properties of high-altitude soils in the Andes, such as Inceptisols and Andisols. Prepared and published several papers and presentations from the aforementioned research for scientific journals, collegiate conferences, and graduate thesis.
