As a host software engineer at JBT I work as part of a close-knit team responsible for both system installations as well as service and support covering the UK and Europe. The role I play within the team involves all aspects of the host system which is responsible for controlling fleet management; order assignment; inventory management; database maintenance; TCP IP / Web interface communication with external systems; IO communication with external equipment and much more.Working in this role keeps me involved through the entire lifecycle of a system which includes:● Supporting our sales team with technical information both in and out of customer sales meetings.● Interfacing directly with customers to understand their requirements and helping to design a system which will function to its maximum potential fulfilling all the customer’s needs.● Programming the system to ensure that it meets all the custom requirements.● Testing to ensure that when the system is used onsite it will function as expected.● On site installation, which gives me the opportunity to work on site with the customers and vehicle engineers to bring all aspects of the project together and realise a fully automated system.● Finally providing aftermarket support to customers if they experience any issues or need any changes over the years as their businesses develop. Software Engineer Intern
-
Jul 2011 - Sep 2012
During my degree I decided to undertake an internship before entering the final year. For this, I applied to one of Staffordshire University’s most prestigious placements at Eurocopter Deutschland. I was one of ten students selected to spend 12 months working abroad to gain experience, both living in a different country for a prolonged amount of time and working for a large multinational company. As the internship was coming to an end, I was given the opportunity to extend my contract and help the team to complete some of the projects we were working on. As I was enjoying working for the company, and living abroad, I decided to accept the contract extension for an extra 6 weeks. As an employee in research and development for the simulation department of Eurocopter Deutschland, I worked as part of a team responsible for the development of a digital moving map system for the NH90 military helicopter simulator, my main tasks included: ● Writing programs to aid in the generation and portability of the maps. ● Production of digital maps using specialist software. ● Research and evaluation of the most appropriate sources from which to obtain the maps, also the best ways to convert the maps into a suitable format for the simulator. ● Producing documentation to aid other employees in the use of specialist software.
