It was a great pleasure to with with James. He was extremely professional, effective, high achieving and collaborative implementation manager for an M&A project. Hope to work him him again in future!

I have worked with James as a colleague in Shell's Downstream Acquisitions & Divestments Implementation Team. Together we have delivered the completion and integration programmes on many deals in Shell across Downstream and New Energies. James brings ideas with energy and enthusiasm and also has a can-do, practical approach to increase deal value or to prevent value leakage using Post Merger Integration best practices. He has the ability to work successfully across multiple businesses and functions and to deliver through others without formal authority. James has excellent programme management skills well suited for the completion and integration of complex deals in multidisciplinary environments. But most importantly, he is a team player and a very pleasant colleague to work with!

As an Independent Programme Management Consultant, I provide leadership and PPM expertise to organisations on critical change portfolios, programmes, projects and PMOs. I have achieved a faultless track record of adding value and realising benefits which resulted in being repeatedly retained for additional work and extensions of responsibilities. At Shell, I championed leadership roles across multidisciplinary teams within the Global M&A Portfolio and held responsibility for delivery of numerous M&A transactions ranging between $76m - $55bn in value; I thrived as the Deal Implementation & Separation Lead, spearheading the SASREF Refinery divestment in Saudi Arabia; successfully leading a team across three continents and aligning with a counterparty to enable the $810m deal to close prior to a critical delivery date; I held a key role as Head of Planning, Tracking & Reporting within the Integration Office for the Shell / BG Group Merger, implementing the approach, plan and controls to enable the deal to close to plan and the (>$4bn) synergy target to be exceeded. I oversaw the divestment & downstream exit across 14 African countries. I also led the deal implementation of the divestment of Shell's downstream business in Russia - a transaction that was completed end-to-end within 41 days. At Carpetright Ltd, I led the acquisition and integration of three target organisations, planning and execution of the transactions, integration, transformation and benefit realisation. I also oversaw, planned and executed an entity restructure across the European businesses. At BP, I spearheaded the programme leadership and successful delivery of targeted benefits from a global deployment of an anti-virus solution and associated infrastructure, service and support. For this, I led the planning and execution to enable a solution to be rolled out to all BP's >90,000 laptops globally and fulfil one of Group IT's priority objectives for 2013 in line with all KPIs and timescales. At Cognizant Technology Solutions, I thrived as part of the specialist ‘Program Management Capability’ and assigned to key clients which included BP, Royal Dutch Shell and Lloyds Banking Group. Within this capacity, I championed the global deployment of an encryption solution to BP laptops globally, ensuring the successful delivery of a Group Board strategic priority and effective mitigation of a top 10 risk of the Group Audit Committee. I played a key role as the Head of PMO and Separation Planning for Shell's Stanlow Oil Refinery, UK, working to ensure that all KPIs were met or exceeded. During this time, I delivered the effective management of central and local teams and alignment with a counterparty to enable successful deal close to targeted timescales, achieving a £1.5m saving on consultancy spend. I additionally led the identification and implementation of appropriate planning and control methods and tools to enable the optimal management of core teams across 9 banking divisions to successfully deliver Europe's largest-ever banking merger and integration and exceed the >£2bn synergies target. During my time at Capita Group, I drove the provision of leadership and PPM & Change Management expertise to Capita Group Companies, maintaining responsibility for planning and execution of >£100m annual education portfolio (comprising up to 15 Programmes and 80 projects + Master PMO) on behalf of Department of Education. Within this capacity, I improved contractual client KPI rating from satisfactory to outstanding, exceeding organisational objectives. Amongst my achievements in this role, I designed and implemented the successful department-wide transformation (comprising 58 staff) optimising the target operating model, organisation structure, system implementation and process re-engineering. I also successfully achieved 12.7% efficiency saving in staff costs and successful delivery of 100% of the programme in 2009/10 annual plan (improvement of 22.4% from the previous regime). Prior to this as Senior Project Manager of Capita National Strategies, I maintained full responsibility for turnaround and delivery of a failing, high profile, multi-discipline programme, delivering this within £3.2m budget and to scope, time and quality success criteria and being recognised as the overall winner of 2007 Capita Group Excellence Award.
