Prof Rob Maunder

It was my pleasure to be Jamal Moore's tutor and project supervisor during his MSc in Wireless Communications at the University of Southampton, UK, which he started in October 2009. During this time, I found Jamal to be a very conscientious and capable student. In our group tutorial sessions, it quickly became apparent that Jamal thrives in team environments, being able to rapidly absorb the ideas of others and patiently explain his own ideas. Whenever I met with Jamal during his year in Southampton, I found him to be a delightfully enthusiastic and popular member of his MSc class. He is always eager to learn more than is required by his courses, demonstrating his passion for knowledge. Jamal achieved a distinction in his MSc, placing him among the top members of his class. Jamal completed his MSc project on the topic of joint source and channel coding, achieving a grade of 80%. I am delighted to recommend Jamal for a PhD position at your institution.
