I continued the work on the audit search project from my previous internship. The tasks included dealing with data races from 3 different sources, adding a reliable backfiller mechanism and resolving problems with data inconsistencies between the new and the old systems. The latest involved decoupling of business logic from the implementation of the legacy system and moving it into my consumer. Gained a deep intuition about debugging large legacy systems and further C++ experience. I continued the work on the audit search project from my previous internship. My task was to decrease the response time of search queries in an auditing system (legacy real time distributed system). To achieve this, I connected the search function with Bloomberg’s internal search engine based on Solr. That involved slight modification of frontend, setting up collection and most importantly, designing a multithreaded consumer of live data feeds to index into the search engine in real time. Got valuable practical experience in C++ and JavaScript. Understood the real importance of initial design, good software practices and team communication (Agile). Show less
