As a sub-contractor I worked with the business Instyle Stairs to deliver high-quality stairs and balustrades. I have worked at many large and small residential sites across Sydney installing stairs from start to finish. Responsibilities:I have installed a wide variety of staircases (e.g. finished timber, open rise, platform, stair over stair, stringer over stringer, sawtooth stringer etc.) which involved:• Ensuring the safe and timely delivery of materials to each worksite.• Managing my materials and inventory (e.g. screws, glue etc.) frequently to ensure I can complete each job on time.• Cleaning and servicing my power tools to ensure I can work safely and efficiently.• Liaising with trades and supervisors to ensure a safe work environment before, during and after installation (e.g. restricting access to the open stair void).• Preparing Safe Work Method Statements and completing visual risk assessments for each individual worksite.• Safely removing fall prevention scaffolding in the stair void for all jobs.• Communicating site issues with the supervisor and the head contractor as they arise.• Building the stairs and balustrades as per the specifications on the plan, ensuring everything is plumb, level and square.• Cutting, modifying and removing walls in the stair void to suit each job, ensuring there is no plumbing or wiring.Achievements:• I worked autonomously and diligently, managing my time and materials to complete each job to a high quality and in a timely manner.• I further developed my communication skills and built good relationships with many builders and trades. • I always enforced a safe work environment while onsite for example, by communicating risks regarding working at heights and fall prevention with trades working around me. I worked at many large residential sites across Sydney for companies such as Frasers Property, Allam Property Group and AV Jennings. Responsibilities:I became very proficient in eaves and cladding working for Marcus Trading. I used a wide variety of the systems available today from large sheets to weather boards (e.g. James Hardie FC, chip board, solid timber and Weathertex). I have taken the opportunity to expand my technical skill set in other areas of carpentry such as:• Outdoor Decking - Hand nailed and screwed decks, set out the bearers and joists and concrete footings for the posts.• Pergolas (timber and metal) - Built many timber pergolas and built Stratco pergolas.• Frames and Trusses - Worked on project home frames, renovation/additions and balcony partition/ pop-out walls for large cladded areas.• Interior Fix-outs - Experience in skirting, architraves, doors, handles and locks.• Metal Roofing - Worked on large flat roof metal roofing projects.• Insulation - Installed insulation in roofs and walls.• Minor Demolition - Experience in repair and/or demolition on first floor additions and project homes.Achievements:• I worked as a leading hand, teaching and supervising up to two apprentices at a time. I was responsible for their learning and development, delegating appropriate tasks and making sure their work was up to standard.• I have a broad knowledge of building standards and this is evidenced through the high-quality work I have produced throughout my career.• I worked with several large building companies throughout my career and built good working relationships with them. I have consistently been sought out because of my efficient and high-quality work. Show less

    • Apprentice Carpenter
      • Feb 2012 - Mar 2015

I was an Apprentice Carpenter employed by the agency MG My Gateway and worked for two host employers during my time there. Stenmark Constructions was my first host employer for eight months and Marcus Trading was my host employer for the remainder of my apprenticeship. Responsibilities: I worked in various areas of carpentry during my apprenticeship. Achievements: • I developed a very high and efficient standard of workmanship during my apprenticeship by working under some great carpenters. • I developed my communication skills during my apprenticeship by witnessing my host employers dealing with different supervisors, companies and trades. • As an Apprentice I led a team of three people, one apprentice (whom I was teaching) and two tradesmen. I oversaw quality control and job efficiency while working on eaves and cladding projects at Frasers Property and AV Jennings. • Marcus Trading saw my potential as a reliable, hardworking and fast learning Carpenter which led to the offer of future work post-apprenticeship.
