Kate Schmidgall
Jake is an incisive visual storyteller and thoughtful strategist. He pursues gut-wrenching honesty in his work at every stage, whether through concepting, approach-building, interviewing, studying, producing, or in post-production and distribution. BitterSweet has relied on Jake for stories requiring deep sensitivity and studious creativity, and he has ALWAYS over-delivered with a humble posture and astute excellence. His work is powerful, and his collaborative work-style is a real gift to every team he's a part of. I would highly recommend Jake to any organization looking to work with a storyteller who will give his absolute best to their mission, and highest respect to their work and how it's conveyed.
Jenny Trucano Muller
Jake is great - he can take a high-level vision for a project or process and break it down into the concrete project or process plan needed to make the project a success. At National Geographic magazine, he took our complicated post-production process, which had never been well documented, and distilled it into a concise, clear manifesto that we used to onboard new photo producers and guide current staff. Jake's greatest strength, though, is working with people. He's highly empathetic, truly interested in understanding other people's points of view, and a true professional who holds himself to the highest standards of integrity.
